On July 20, 1969, astronauts stepped onto the moon and planted an American flag—this was not to claim the moon, but simply to commemorate the U.S role in the first moon landing. Currently China, Russia, and India are all seeking to send astronauts to the moon. An international treaty does not allow any country to own the moon — but as this treaty is still in force, there are some people who believe that countries could be heading towards supremacy of the moon.
